Grease stains can be a real pain. They can ruin carpets, upholstery, car seats, clothes, and who knows what else. It’s awful when you ruin your home’s interior with those unattractive patches. And what’s more, because they tend to seep in and stick, they welcome a lot of harmful bacteria into your home. It’s even worse if you are in a rental property. You don’t want to end up losing your security deposit over a few spills. And we all know grease, fresh or dried, can be tricky to deal with. That is why we have put together this fool-proof guide on how to treat grease stains the right way.
How to Clean Dried Grease Stains the Right Way
We will start with dried grease stains, as they can often go unnoticed. Especially if you have kids, you never know where they have managed to get their grubby hands. Although it can be tough, worry not, here is the solution to cleaning carpets, upholstery, and other fabrics:
- Get your kitchen roll and hot, soapy water.
- Dampen the stain and then lift as much of it as you can with dry, absorbent towels.
- Now it’s time to apply your baking soda. Sprinkle a decent amount over the stain and leave it for an hour or so.
- Time to vacuum up the residue.
- Now get some soapy, hot water and blot away with a clean towel. Then leave to dry.
- At this point, there should only be light traces of the stain. Now it’s time to crack out your ammonia solution.
- We recommend 1 tsp of household ammonia and ¼ cup of warm water.
- Get a cloth and start blotting gently. If the fabric isn’t water-resistant, be careful not to soak the area.
- Now start working the area with a scrubbing brush, applying small amounts of pressure. Be careful not to damage the textile.
- That should do the trick. Now get a bowl of clean water and a new, clean cloth to rinse the area properly. Then get a dry towel to absorb up as much of the excess moisture as possible.
- You can also enlist the services of professional commercial cleaners in Brisbane to save both time and effort.
How to Clean Fresh Grease Stains the Right Way
If you were lucky enough to catch the stain on time, get some paper towels. Soak up as much of the grease as possible, but don’t rub whatever you do. Leave a paper towel on the area for 20 minutes.
Now sprinkle your baking soda/talcum powder liberally over the stain.
Vacuum up your dry component.
If you still have traces of the stain, time to get out the washing up liquid. Squirt a smidgeon onto the spillage and use a damp cloth for blotting.
Now rinse out the fabric and blot it dry using an absorbent towel.
